Specifically designed to meet the extremely high demands of the pharmaceutical industry, the Pharmapaktor® APC C comprises four models and efficiently processes mixtures of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) by compaction and is perfectly suited to either micro batch or continuous processing runs of up to 400kg per hour – as well as activities such as galenic R&D.
The compact Pharmapaktor® APC C is just one of an excellent range of laboratory-scale to production level roller presses available from Hosokawa Micron. Developed and engineered using the latest innovations – such as additive manufacturing and Fuzzy Logic technology – the Pharmapaktor® APC C is manufactured from easy-to-clean stainless steel and is a practical, user friendly and low maintenance option, with a host of integrated and optional features that are perfect for critical pharmaceutical production, such as a Hosokawa Alpine Flake Crusher. Hosokawa Micron is a containment specialist and is able to create tailor-made, ATEX, GAMP 5 and OEL 5-standard process systems, including state-of-the-art isolators with CIP to safely house the Pharmapaktor® APC C.
Manufactured from stainless steel, there are four Pharmapaktor® APC C models in this product range (APC C 80/20, APC C 250/30, APC C 250/50 and APC C 250/100), offering a maximum batch quantity throughput of between 6kg and 400kgs per hour*.
Minimum batch quantities range from 50g (for the smallest model) to 100g for the three larger versions. The smaller version has a press force of 6kN/cm, while the larger version has a press force of 20kN.
The roller diameter for the smallest, laboratory-scale version is 80mm, while the three largest versions each have much larger diameters of 250mm. Roller widths are either 20mm, 30mm, 50mm or 100mm, depending on the model chosen (the APC C 250 has an optional conversion kit for a working width of 30mm and 50mm).
The considered design and build quality mean this roller press has useful technical features such as adjustable gap control during operation, small funnels for accurate reproducibility from 50g, a screw system for automatic product adaptation, vacuum de-aeration, an ergonomic roller system for quick roller changes and easy cleaning, and an integrated Flake Crusher. A cooling system for the rollers is also available.

The Pharmapaktor® APC C range is used for the economical compacting and granulating of extremely potent pharmaceutical ingredients, including temperature-sensitive materials and challenging powders. It may also be used for micro batch production and for R&D in a laboratory environment.
The Pharmapaktor® APC C is one of a range of specialist roller presses available from Hosokawa Micron that are suitable for pharmaceuticals. The Kompaktor ARC K range is excellent for pressure-sensitive APIs and offers continual logging and controlling of the relevant press force, so the process can be validated. The much smaller, adaptable Kompaktor APC L processes potent ingredients into granules or briquettes and is an economical, energy-efficient and low maintenance option that is perfect for frequent product changes.
The Pharmapaktor® APC C series offers an excellent option for small batch or continuous active ingredient processing of between 50g and 400kg per hour, depending on the model chosen.
First, the powder to be processed is gently pressed into flakes or pellets by the integrated, stainless-steel Hosokawa Alpine Flake Crusher, then the flakes or pellets are processed further by the cantilevered rolls to make granules.
The three larger models have gap and screw control which, for convenience, can be adjusted electromechanically during operation. De-aeration of the end product is achieved by the vacuum that is created.
The Pharmapaktor® APC C is dust-tight and has a number of features made possible by the state-of-the-art intelligent controls, that enable optimal processing efficiency, such as automatic press force control, electromechanical gap adjustment and a start-up mode for maximum material yield.
Additional options include an inert operating mode, if required.
The Pharmapaktor® APC C can be purchased as standalone equipment, but due to the nature of the material being processed – which could be potent ingredients for pharmaceutical use – a containment element is highly recommended for the containment of active ingredients and protection of operators.
Depending on the particular application, we would recommend a state-of-the-art Hosokawa Micron isolator, expertly designed and engineered to the highest safety standards – including ATEX and FDA certification, GAMP 5 and OEB 5 – and offering WIP capabilities and an inert operating mode, if necessary.
